Banking Legislation Moves Toward Stabilizing State Banks
Gladys Pyle notes pendulum has swung to common sense banking policy with bills in play. Senate bill 127 limits closed bank money the superintendent can deposit to bank capital and surplus, potentially saving thousands. Senate bill 128 would cut max loan to 15 percent of paid in capital, aiming to curb bank losses. House ideas include electing the superintendent, liquidating closed banks via circuit court, higher reserves, and more frequent reports.
