Taxes Action Delayed As House Passes Funding Measures
The House delayed action on the graduate land tax bill while approving funding for university and state facilities. A joint resolution seeking a constitutional amendment stood on the Senate calendar. The House passed measures including 176000 for an administration building at the South Dakota State University Vermillion campus, 120000 for a museum administration building, 10000 for remodeling a building at the School of Mines Rapid City, and 520000 for a new armory at State College. Also funded were 33000 for veterans and 13000 extra for a heating system at a penitentiary. Two game and fish bills passed, authorizing proclamation of big game seasons and increasing penalties for fraudulently purchasing resident licenses. The rural credits and social security provisions were updated. The House voted 43 to 28 to let municipalities use golf course and athletic fees to finance park systems.
