Fatal Bronx crash ties Toledo lumber dealer to death

Avery Wright, 23 year old lumber dealer of Toledo, was arrested on homicide charges after a Bronx crash killed Ming Harriet Hathaway instantly. Hathaway’s sister Helen, two friends, and Wright were trapped beneath the overturned car. Riverside Park to be improved in extensive program this year

Riverside Park at the East Third street entrance to Harm and Ravine Park will receive the most attention this summer in an ambitious development program funded by raising the park board appropriation from 7000 to 10000. A 1600 landscaping project will shape the six acre Riverside park with shrubs gardens and a lily pond near Third street. Work starts next Monday and aims to reveal a glimpse of the park’s future by July 15 under Park Superintendent Robert Weir and President Clarence G Walker.

Pierre February 24 Final senate action on L G Troth Lyman county farmer and state secretary of agriculture was pending today. The agriculture committee voted yesterday to recommend confirmation and may report in executive session. Opponents could press the matter at the door when the committee reports. Troth was appointed eight days ago by Gov Green and is supported by the state farmers union.

Extension Change Still Pending in South Dakota Senate

Pierre Feb 24. An extension reform bill to place county extension work under elective boards failed 36 to 6 in the Senate. A reconsideration allowed Senator John A. Boland to offer a joint responsibility plan for all farm groups. The proposal, backed by the farm bureau, would replace the current system run with South Dakota State College. Critics said the plan would politicize extension work and vote against it, while supporters cited 4-H club programs as essential and opposed the change.
