W S Davis Charges Inequalities In Taxation In Testimony
W S Davis, a long time Huron resident and business owner, testifies before a city committee that tax assessments are unequal across blocks and properties. He cites specific parcels including Bell and Skezas properties, compares 1938 and 1939 taxes, and accuses City Manager Sears of favoritism in pavement and building decisions. He also notes wasteful practices and demands broader public scrutiny of valuation methods.

City Finances Under Scrutiny Over Unpaid Warrants
A 1940 hearing transcript reveals concerns about the city’s cash accounts and a $27,087.55 balance of registered warrants, funded partly by the waterworks and general funds. Tax collection shows $145,915.65 turned over from a 1939 levy of $197,064, with questions about debt service and operating costs. Dorothy Swan certifies the transcript as full and true.
