Drinking decline noted by South Dakota educators
Pierre callers report that drinking among high school students in the state has fallen over the past decade while behavior conditions improved. R M Rawlins cites a drop from about 14 percent of students using liquor in 1920 to a much lower rate, despite enrollment growth, with Giffen agreeing on the decrease and the Hoover commission noting improved conditions nationwide. The report highlights the eighteenth amendment benefiting schools and a surge in high school enrollment from two to over five million driven by poorer families seeking education. Separate item notes a Hungarian settlement plan west of Mobridge, with a Milwaukee railway party evaluating territory for colonization and possible relocation of settlers next year.
