Advocates Draft System For War
SIOUX FALLS Feb 22 A universal draft for men and property in event of war was urged as a peace plan by O J Bodenhamer national commander of the American Legion at a luncheon with the region and chamber of commerce. He said the draft would mobilize capital materials and manpower, cost nothing to the nation, deter war profit and assure victory if needed. He argued it would make the nation invincible and deter others from war. The plan would be studied for possible inclusion in national defense policy and a Reed-Wainwright commission would study and report to Congress for potential legislation.
