Sioux Falls Salary Bill Sparks Indirect Clash in Legislature
In a five week session move, a bill to cap mayoral pay at 3500 and council members at 2500 with possible boosts to 4500 and 3500, aimed at Sioux Falls, faced opposition and questions of municipal autonomy. Rep Fanebust pressed action, noting current 4000 and 3600 salaries set by the 1937 law as an injustice to taxpayers. Rep Mayo argued the city should set its own wages after two hearings.
