Seek Extension Of Granary Plan And $50 Million Increase
Agriculture officials said Congress will be asked to extend the Ever Normal Granary program and authorize an extra 50 million dollars to finance federal storage and price pegging. The Commodity Credit Corporation which advances loans to farmers on surpluses expires June 30 and may need about 200 million dollars more in unobligated lending power to meet this year's demand. Surpluses from good production years would be stored under CCC loans to keep them off the market while years of short crops avert shortages. Commodities owned by the agency on January 31 included corn about 200 million bushels with a value around 152 million, cotton several million bales valued at 364 million, rubber valued at 30 million, and tobacco about 332 million pounds valued at 70 million.
