Freshmen at Prairie Manual Labor College in Manitou
Molly and I move into Selfridge dorm in Manitou as registrations and quizzes loom. The hall bustles with unpacking, a mishap with a book hits Helga, and Molly decorates our room with a Winnie the Pooh mascot. Dean Bascom lectures on Ethics for College Women while legends of Lincoln and Douglas flavor the campus. A prank cannon blasts vegetables, and a telegram arrives: Mac has a stroke and I must return home.
