Poisoning hits Elkton area from auction sale sandwiches

About 160 people across South Dakota and Minnesota were treated for suspected food poisoning after sandwiches made from ground pork and beef, served with coffee at an auction sale at the Ed Ziebarth farm near Elkton. Doctors said the illness, traced to sandwiches left in an earthen crack, caused stomach cramps but no fatalities. Temporary hospitals operated in Elkton and nearby towns as patients were released or treated. several listed named victims and doctors from Brookings, Flandreau, Aurora, Bushnell, Lake Benton, Pipestone.
