Conviction Of Nuzum Upheld By South Dakota Court
The South Dakota Supreme Court sustained the murder case against Nuzum, noting a fair trial and ample evidence supporting the verdict. Nuzum received seven years in the state penitentiary and a $1000 fine, with the 1927 fatal accident cited. The court also upheld Melvin J. Bute’s conviction for second degree manslaughter in the shooting of Donald Pond near Pierre, eight months in jail and a $500 fine. The decision includes a sweep of other appeals and remands across multiple counties.
