Wrecking Co Demolishes Watertown Hotel in Six Months
The Martin and Pugsley Wrecking Co of Huron tore down a four story Watertown brick hotel and will salvage material at about half price. Work is expected to take six to ten months. Tax Collects From Federal Employees in South Dakota
Pierre December 28 After a lengthy argument Tax Director W C Welsh began collecting the state gross income tax from federal government employees residing in South Dakota. Attorney General Walter Conway had ruled federal workers were taxable though federal officials disputed the levy. Many workers refused to pay, but Welsh reassessed about 1000 employees who initially declined. He said a substantial percent of those replying have paid.
Precincts of Tax Refusal Lead to Sheriff Distress Warrant
In Frankfort on December 28 Spera notes the legal procedure for nonpayment of tax. The sheriff may seize property via a distress warrant. Miss Avis Stubbs and Miss Ruth Carye Franz, nursing trainees at Luther hospital in Watertown, arrived home for a brief vacation with relatives.
