Three Convicts Get Christmas Pardons
Governor Bushfield granted Christmas clemency to three short term prisoners in the South Dakota penitentiary. Pardons went to W. B. Pierre, Dec 20. W J Goetz, superintendent of the state motor patrol, urged caution during the holiday season after 15 South Dakota traffic deaths in November. In Ol. Pawerence the St. Lawrence community honored Mrs. C. J. H. Ferree on her 90th birthday. Morning church services featured songs and a chosen text, followed by an open house at the Fishers' home where 102 visitors called. Ferree, blind and nearly deaf for 11 years, moved from homesteading near Burdette to Holden Township, then to St. Lawrence 23 years ago. Great nieces hosted the event, with a 90 candle cake baked by Adolph Tyler and gifts presented.
