Mothers Waive Alimony to Get State Aid, Says McCay
Pierre December 18 Divorced and separated parents face new issues in the aid to dependent children program says C H McCay director of the Social Security Department. Some mothers seek to change divorce decrees to shift alimony away and have the state pay, claiming it is easier than collecting from fathers. McCay says the trend risks making divorce more appealing and urges courts to enforce father support and for mothers to adjust decrees when fathers’ circumstances change. The department will push enforcing orders and consider changes when fathers can contribute more or less now.
