Miners Believed Trapped After Beckley Explosion

In Beckley West Virginia December 17 the body of miner W M Kirk was recovered from the No 4 mine of Raleigh Coal and Coke Company. Rescue crews reported at least seven men initially trapped and estimates ranged up to 14 still behind debris two miles inside the hillside. Four or five men were brought out with burns and hospitalized. officials feared many may be dead.

Leighton W. Crapp of Fifth Street Northeast faced grand larceny charges after allegedly stealing two chickens from Albert Crown of 529 Fifth Street Northeast. Five Die in Mineral Point Fire Tragedy in Pa

A two family frame house in Mineral Point, Pennsylvania, burned today killing five people trapped on the second floor. Victims include Ethel Marie Bartlebaugh 24 and her children Myrtle Marie 4 and John 2 months, plus two nieces Ruth Peart Bartlebaugh 22 and Betty Jane Bartlebaugh 5.
