Jury rules death natural in hayrack find near Gann Valley
A coroner's jury near Gann Valley decided William Shong 60 died of natural causes, likely a heart seizure, after his body was found in a straw-filled hayrack about 25 miles northwest of town. Shong, a Buffalo County ranch hand, was last seen noon Monday and found by 2 a.m. Tuesday. he leaves a son in Eau Claire Wisconsin.

Indian School Bill Defeated in House Vote
Washington December 11. The House rejected an amendment to the interior department annual supply bill that would have increased capacity at the Rapid City nonreservation Indian boarding school from 215 to 260 and raised the appropriation from 101,000 to 101,625. The measure failed 64 to 16, with Chairman Crampton opposing and noting the institution had been a sanatorium for tubercular children and should not be converted back to a boarding school despite lobbying by Williamson.

Maple River Dam Near Frederick Final Inspection
Final inspection of the Maple River concrete dam near Frederick in Brown County is completed by D J Johnson director of the state game and fish department and D W Loucks department engineer. Construction was authorized by the state game and fish commission at its October meetings. The dam spans 111 feet at the top and rises 17 feet with a 10 foot spillway, built at a cost of 5117.11 dollars. It will back up Maple River waters for about a mile.
