Damages Awarded In Auto Death Case Near Brookings
R Culver of Brookings was awarded $5,000 damages in circuit court against the estate of Melvin Davis for the death of Mrs. Alvina Culver in an automobile accident north of Brookings in July 1929. The suit, heard after a change of venue, was brought by Culver as administrator of his wife's estate against Grace Dowdell and Pearl Hollingsworth, executrices of the Davias estate.

Padre Of Rains Dies At 80 At Santa Clara Infirmary
The Rev Jerome Sixtus Ricard affectionately known as Padre of the Rains died at the University of Santa Clara infirmary after a heart attack in 1923. Newport News VA Dec 9 Largest of all American built merchant steamers the President Hoover was poised in dry docks this morning for a ride down the slips to water. Mrs Herbert Hoover came by train from Washington to be sponsor. The ship is 753 feet long and displaces 33 700 tons. She is the first of two 93 000 000 ships to be constructed here for the Dollar line and will be placed in service on the Pacific coast.
