Pickus Seeks to Quash Grafton Bridges Case

Herman Pickus, Aberdeen contractor, seeks to quash the six count indictment charging obtaining money under false pretenses in Brown County bridge work. He asks the South Dakota Supreme Court to dismiss, alleging improper grand jury selection and improper judge actions. The case moves to hearing December 19 with records produced.

General Overdraft Reduced in November

Pierre December 11 The overdraft in the general fund of the state treasury was reduced from 1 016 051.32 to 760 2118 during November state treasurer A C Goodhope announced today in his monthly report The reduction totaled 255 220 24 Receipts to the general fund during the month were 257 011 47 and expenditures Biot 704 43 The total of all funds at the end of the month was 5 446 12205 an increase of 283 17499 from the Oct 80 fiure of The Receipts to all funds were F227 415 33 and total expenditures amounted to 1 9H4 24034 The decrease in the general fund over raft is accounted for largely by tax money remitted to the state treasury by county treasurers.

Haskell Of Huron Elected Director Of 8th Federal Land Bank

A. M. Haskell of Huron has been elected to the board of directors of the Federal Land Bank for the Eighth District, with a three year term. He will operate from Huron, attend Omaha meetings monthly, and has led local land bank efforts since 1919 as president of the Association of Secretary-Treasurers and secretary treasurer of the Huron First National Farm Loan Association. He won 3,660 votes.

Pierre December 1 The state Capitol building commission will seek an official opinion from Attorney General Sharpe on transferring highway department funds to furnish the top floor of the new state annex. The highway commission may contribute funds, with bids due December 12 for elevator equipment and hardware as work on the annex is slowed by cold weather and winter conditions.
