HITS AND MISSES ON SOUTH DAKOTA DUCK HUNTING SEASON
The closing of South Dakota's duck season brought a tale of poor hunting. drought dried sloughs and ponds forced ducks to concentrate, reducing shot opportunities. Many hunters failed to bag ducks as geese and mallards stayed on frozen waters despite hopeful forecasts. Weather aided or hobbled the hunt, with calmer days and early flights giving way to sparse shooting as the season ended.
