Hitchcock Scout Unit Renewes Charter Four Years Old

The Hitchcock Boy Scout troop No 16 sponsored by the Methodist church at Hitchcock renews its charter after four years in the Hurog council. Mike Steffen will continue as scout master with two assistants Alex Phillips and Joseph Ole Johnson. Johnson is a long time scout who recently turned 18 and plans to stay in scouting. James E Haromer chairs the troop committee. New efforts include Alpena and Ft Pierre units. Ft Pierre started a new troop with 20 members sponsored by the Episcopal church led by Rev J E Washburn and Rev Conrad H Gesner. The basement room provided by Mrs E Corne serves as troop headquarters.

Member stores of Home Owned Stores Inc adopt a uniform credit policy. Credit extended on a business like basis with authorized credit and timely payment tied to customers pay cycles. No charge accounts for those with unpaid balances at other stores. Credit information shared through Associated Retailers office. Union Proposes Veterans Agencies Consolidation Plan

Washington December 4 a bill proposed by Chairman Williamson to consolidate all war veterans agencies under the Veterans Bureau with the president directing the effort and transfer of the relief and benefits bureau from the interior department and the national home for disabled veterans. The measure would place about 750 million dollars in annual expenditures under the Veterans Bureau to improve administration, economies, and uniform service to former military and naval members. Williamson said the change would fix inequalities in veteran treatment identified by supporters from South Dakota and others after years of committee consideration.

Catholics to Set Up Earners Banks Nationwide

The National Catholic Welfare Conference social action department plans a nationwide network of Catholic parish credit unions to provide short term personal loans at moderate rates for wage earners. The program aims to extend into 36 states where credit union laws exist, forming cooperative savings and loan societies with capital financed at 5 percent.
