Lamb Market to Be Strong Says Brookings
Aug 28 Brookings. South Dakota sheepmen with feeder lambs to sell this fall may find a strong market in the corn belt states, per USDA reports summarized by A M Eberle. The 1929 crop of western lambs in 13 western range states is about three percent smaller than last year, while South Dakota lamb crop shows a slight increase. Demand for feeder lambs should be strong due to good returns from lamb feeding last winter and fewer cattle and hogs to consume feed in the corn belt. A favorable outlook for the sheep industry next year follows from high prices of competing meats and smaller 1929 lamb crop. Over the next three years increased cattle and hog slaughter is expected, with lessened demand for mutton, so sheep producers should plan accordingly.
