All metal ZMC-2 dirigible differs from Graf Zeppelin
Detroit August 28. The all metal ZMC-2 for the United States Navy shows three radical departures from the Graf Zeppelin and the Los Angeles. The envelope shape and controls are novel and its practicality is limited as an experimental craft, though test flights are deemed historically significant. The craft, nicknamed the flying tomato can, is 150 feet long, 50 feet wide with a stubby egg shape, powered by two 440 hp Wright Whirlwind motors, cruising around 60 mph, with a range near 680 miles and a crew of three plus cargo.
