LAKE PRESTON Aug 24 Special The first assessor of Kingsbury county, L. W. Barber, marked his 83rd birthday at his Hetland home. He hosted a Sunday dinner for 38 descendants. Barber arrived with his family in 1879 and has lived here ever since, walking the entire county in office. He is in excellent health and is father to Mrs. PR. Phinney and Mrs. M. Hartly of Lake Preston.

Farm Woman Is Severely Burned In Exploding Stove
Mrs Lowden Sommers, 35, is in critical condition after a gasoline stove exploded at the Sommers farm home near South Shore. She rolled in grass and jumped into a water tank to extinguish flames as the house caught fire. She was alone with two children. neighbors and farmers formed a bucket brigade to control the blaze using rain-water.

Redfield, Aug 2 Special Wayne Miller a one year old newsboy in Redfield delivers papers in a self made automobile. The motor comes from a washing machine and wheels from a coaster wagon. Steering wheel from a car and the rest cobbled from a 2 by 4 frame and canvas hood. The gasoline engine propels the car at 15 to 20 miles per hour.

Barn Fire Destroys Canova Area Barn
A large basement barn on the Carl Gasmire farm near Canova was destroyed by a fire of unknown origin. Workmen discovering the blaze released a span of mules from the building, but the flames spread rapidly, consuming the structure five miles southwest of Canova.

A barn fire destroyed a saddle pony, six head of cattle, and feed in the barn. Fire damaged a cream separator, harness, meat, and a straw stack while a hay windrow burned near the barn.
