Eastman says coal by boat to Lake Superior up 10 percent
Defense Transportation Director Joseph B. Eastman testified that coal shipments by ore boats to Lake Superior ports will be about ten percent higher this season, despite current stocks slightly below last year's. He noted some boats return empty to speed ore tonnage east, with ice delays and a revised ore target of 86.5 million tons shaping the plan.
