Economic notes on butterfat prices and cow culling
Prices for butterfat are unlikely to rise much from 1939 levels. If the average butterfat price over the next six to seven months stands at H cents, a 100 pound cow loses six cents per pound of fat, a 208 pound cow nets 14 cents, and a 400 pound cow nets 15 cents. The advice is to cull low producers and cows diseased or injured, as they are unlikely to be profitable again.
