Vermillion Aug 16 The State board of regents establish a separate graduate school at the University of South Dakota to offer advanced work across departments including bacteriology biology economics education English history and more The move places graduate studies on par with other state universities and provides facilities for both degree seekers and non degree continuing studies with a dedicated director and faculty.

Override Objections To Aid To 4-H Clubs

Yankton county commissioners kept in the permanent budget for the next year three contested items after a Farmers Union protest. The group opposed 4-H club work 275 dollars county fair association 500 dollars and poultry association 500 dollars. A motion to strike failed three to two as final budget action loomed.

Iowa Pioneer One Of 1st To Build In Huron

Nelson Suckow the oldest living Buena Vista county pioneer and a frontier frontrunner along the James river in South Dakota in 1871. Born Decorah 1854 he moved to Buena Vista at age 11 and later joined his brother Louis to explore the James River valley from Yankton to Rockport.

Watertown Boy Returns From Oxford Rhodes Scholar

Clayton Craig son of Mr and Mrs Bion Craig of 205 Westirth avenue Northeast Watertown returns from three years in England as a Rhodes Scholarship student at Oxford University He completed Watertown High School with high scholastic honors in 1920 then studied at the University of South Dakota Vermilion in 1925 and spent a year at Harvard in 1926 before sailing to Oxford October 3 1926.

Sanborn County Farms Shown Rich in Output and Ownership

In Pierre on August 16 1920 Frank D Kriebs state secretary of agriculture notes that 50 percent of the 1 120 farmers in Sanborn County own their farms. The county is described as rich in crops with 296 700 acres under cultivation and James River crossing the area. Yields include 2 853 000 bushels of corn 1 060 000 bushels of oats and 274 000 bushels of wheat. Dairy and poultry valued at 215 000 and 383 000 respectively. Transportation good with railroads and highways 34 and 87. Woonsocket seat 1500 population with high school and active trade. Art in lines include Lake Prior and Ruskin Park. County features multiple towns with high schools and strong rural education. Farmers and business prospects are presented as favorable.
