Delegates from at least four states will back Madison’s Mrs. Freda Kramer for the American Legion Auxiliary national presidency at Louisville from September 30 to October 3. Kramer, northwest division vice president, has state endorsements from North and South Dakota, Minnesota, and Montana.

Threshing Machine Fire Destroys Grain and Straw Near Highmore

The Highmore fire department responded to a blaze two miles from the city when Fred Weidebdauch's threshing machine caught fire. Sparks ignited a wagon of grain and soon spread to a straw stack. The grain swags were being threshed for Fred Dittman.

Lightning Strikes Home Without Fire Near Tulare

A bolt hit the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Leonard near Tulare during a severe thunder and windstorm, cracking plaster and splintering a window casing but not catching fire. A chicken house on farmer Fred Harmening’s nearby farm was burned to the ground by lightning in the same storm.

Tulare, Aug. 16. Leo Kopplin, resident east of the city, is reported in serious condition after being kicked on the head by a horse. The injury is described as critical today.

Aug 16 Minneapolis report from Richard T Jones director of the west north central district of the U S Department of Labor notes satisfactory labor conditions in South Dakota through July into August. He cites active demand for farm workers and heavy harvesting labor, plus gains in railroad and highway projects and generally satisfactory conditions in Huron and building trades across the region.

Lake Preston residents recall three men seen in the city for days who disappeared after reading a Redfield bank robbery report that matched their appearance. The trio, in overalls and una shaved, sought harvest work before leaving in a large car Sunday night.

Fedora reports a grandmothers club with 14 members as of August. Meetings occur the first Wednesday of each month with a luncheon funded by each member. The August gathering was hosted at a member’s home.

Mitchell Man Fined For Breaking Glass

Pierre report says Charles Guernsey of Mitchell was fined twenty dollars after arraignment on a charge of breaking glass on a public highway. Sheriff Milner noted it was the first such prosecution in South Dakota. Guernsey was arrested by Deputy Wood Smith of Mitchell.
