Railroad stocks led the rally on strong first-half earnings, with Atchison up near nine points and other majors climbing several points. Howard woman hurt in crash near Howard

Mrs V Trebbie and Mrs James O Meara both of Howard were injured when a Graham Paige overturned after a flat tire four miles north of Howard. O Meara suffered chest injuries and possible internal injuries. Trebbie was cut and scratched. Both men were uninjured and taken to Howard by ambulance. The car was demolished. Also noting expects $15900 from Wool pool shipments of over 76000 pounds of wool shipped from Aurora county.

Yankton August 10 The state geologist Dr E F Rothrock and his survey crew outlined South Dakota mineral wealth. Lignite could yield gasoline with a German process, suggesting seven billion gallons from local fields. Manganese near Oacoma and Chamberlain could help make the state a major producer.

Witwer Death Remains Mystery at 39 in Los Angeles

H. C. Witwer humorist and writer died yesterday morning in Los Angeles. Cause of death not disclosed with family welfare notes and physician not signing the death certificate. Born in Athens Pennsylvania, he wrote widely including Classics in Slang and prize‑fight stories before moving to California for health.

Funeral for Prof William Asker Held in Brookings

Funeral services were held today for Professor William Asker, assistant professor of education at South Dakota College and state supervisor of industrial education. He died Thursday from heart trouble after an operation for a ruptured appendix. A Swedish immigrant, he came to America 16 years ago and earned an M.A. from the University of Washington in 1916. He is survived by his wife and daughter Britta, a recent State College graduate.

Track Crew Upgrades Pierre District Line

The Chicago and North Western track crew finished heavier rails between Huron and Iroquois and shift to the Pierre district eastward. The small project includes regrading roadbeds and graveling sections and should wrap up in about a week. Earlier work between Huron and Troquois covered about 18 miles and cost around $150,000.
