The state highway commission awarded resurfacing on 248.259 miles and graveling on 33.783 miles across several counties. A single bridge contract in Yankton County went to Noonan Hyde Co. for 8294.40 dollars, bringing the total last-set project cost to 225,538.48 dollars.

Old Tre mont hotel sells at Brookings auction landmark

The old Tremont hotel on Main street across from the city park in Elkton was sold at public auction to satisfy a tax lien. Andrew Street bought the building for 750 dollars. Its future use is undecided though demolition for reuse is likely. Historically it was a leading county hotel under Henry Davlin and John McConville before closing years ago.

Estelline Residents Fight Telephone Rate Hike

Estelline and nearby towns oppose Central West Public Service Company plan to raise telephone rates. The company says current rates fail to provide fair returns. Clear Lake is among the affected towns. Railroad commissioners will review evidence from the towns and issue a decision.

Girl Killed In Auto Crash Near Kransburg

Watertown reports a 25 year old woman named Ame ga Green died at a Water town hospital from injuries after her car left highway 212 near Kransburg and hit a ditch following a collision with a car driven by Theodore Storm. Her companions Mr and Mrs Waldrath suffered no serious injuries.

Three Elevators Lumber Yard Sold in Tulare Deal

Tulare August 3 Special announces the sale of the Siberz brothers and Craig lumber yard to Siberz brothers H H W Binger and Ernest Steinbis. The transaction amount is 4300 dollars. Elevators at Tulare Bonilla and Spottswood formerly owned by the Sibert brothers and Craig company were sold to the new organization. John Till of Mitchell is the new manager of the Tulare elevator.

Former Tulare Man Injured in Bridge Accident

John Roos a former Tulare resident now a traveling salesman for a tire firm, was injured when his car skidded on gravel and struck bridge cables, ejecting him 20 feet. He is hospitalized in Montevideo Minnesota with a fractured shoulder blade and other injuries.

Redfield S D March 3 3 P more than 100 farmers in Spink county sowed certified seed last spring and fourteen have fields inspected for purity weed control and crop condition. Inspections by H S McFadden agronomist in charge of the federal wheat breeding station represent the South Dakota Crop Improvement association. In St Lawrence on August 3 Miss Gladys Burton and Lambeth Wilson wed at six thirty in the parsonage with Rev. J T ONeill officiating. The couple, seen by close relatives, plan a wedding trip to the Black Hills before settling in Wakonda where Mr Wilson works at the Old Trail garage.

Wool Pool Yields 84 Percent of Spink County Clip

Spink county farmers marketed 150,009 pounds or 84 percent of their total wool through the Cooperative Wool Growers of South Dakota this season. Two cars from Mellette and Conde plus shipments from Doland and Aberdeen accompanied by county agent J. As Salisbury’s figures. About 320 farmers own over 20,000 breeding ewes. 16 percent of farmers keep sheep. Average flock size is 62 ewes.
