Start Threshing In Miner County
In Miner County the small grain harvest is finished and threshing has begun. Yields vary by area with 40 to 45 bushels per acre in the northwest and southwest, while western and central parts show much lower yields due to a dry growing season. Heat and premature ripening reduced overall expectations. Corn near Howard benefited from last week’s 1.60 inches of rain, but late planting on sandy soil and intense heat limited yields. Grasshoppers swarm during the day, prompting attempts at control, and butterfat marketing has fallen off recently due to heat and insect pressure.
