Students Promised Queer Experiences
Vermillion April 27 Walking along the shores of a South Dakota ocean picking up salt water shells such as the ancestors of the chambered nautiles clams fancy shelled ammonites and investigating prehistoric oyster beds will be among the unusual experiences of the students in elementary geology who will take the three weeks field trip offered by the geology department of the University of South Dakota as part of the summer school curriculum. Neither steamers nor fail ing vessels will be required for the exploration of the Cretaceous sea which although it vanished millions of years ago still leaves traces of its existence in fossil shells strewn in the sands of the ancient beaches especially well displayed in the region between Faith and Trail C according to BE. P. Rothrock professor of ideology at the university. In the gumbo district between Rapid City and Faith are to be found clams varying in size from eight inches to feet which were once inhabitants of the salt Dakotan sea.
