Course Of Study To Be Defended In South Dakota action

Pierre April 23. James Brown and B F Drewry assistant attorneys general will defend the state public instruction department in Mitchell tomorrow against C A Nash Davison county school superintendent who brought the action charging excess authority in preparing the course of study. E C Giffen will attend and act with Nash in the action. The defense will likely rely on demurrer and motion to quash and appeals to the state supreme court appear likely.

Rayville Shop Swept By Fire

Rayville suffered a major fire Saturday morning that destroyed the James Shaw blacksmith and implement company including the building, stock, and equipment valued at about 14000 dollars. Fire spread to two small Erwin Zell buildings. insurance did not cover the loss.

Lindberghs to leave Sourland for Englewood this week

Yankton Girl Dies From Heel Infection

Beura Winckler, 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. Winckler, living northwest of the town, died from lockjaw caused by an infection in her heel. The injury occurred when a wire cut her heel as she was dragged by a team of horses, which had threatened to run away.

Two Meet Death As Winter Comes Back

In the Rockies over the weekend a man and a woman died during a blizzard. Mrs. B E Snowden a rural school teacher near Trinidad Colorado apparently died from exposure while wandering in a deserted cabin four miles from her school. Wagon overturns after blast frightens team on Highway 16

Severe weather across the region causes a wagon to overturn when frightened by a blast. Flooding from heavy rain washes boulders down hills near Whitewood, crippling traffic and washing out a county bridge north of town. Rain stretches from Baker Montana to Philip South Dakota and into Wyoming. Estimates show widespread moisture, with Aberdeen, Watertown, and surrounding areas reporting several inches of rainfall and approaching monthly normals.

Veteran Yankton G A R member dies in Custer home

Samuel F. Vanesdel 83, a longtime Yankton county area veteran, died Saturday at his son G D Vanesdel’s home in Custer after settling in 1862. He served in the Dakota cavalry and leaves four sons a daughter and a brother, A J Vanosdel of Mission Till. Funeral services will be held here and at Mission Hill on Thursday.
