Miller high school M Club banquet marks annual event

The Miller high school M Club banquet drew about 150 students and townspeople and was emceed by Wayne Dennis. Speakers included Mayor W J Hal Dower and Supt. Morrison Sims, with Elbert Van Cleave and James Mullin honored for football and basketball success.

Protest Fired On Rice Syrup Rates

The South Dakota board of railroad commissioners filed with the Interstate Commerce Commission to seek rate reductions on rice and syrups from western manufacturing states to western South Dakota jobbing points. The board argues current rates are excessive and unduly prejudicial compared with rates to competing points such as Sioux City and Denver.

Seven Cases Brought By South Dakota Inspectors

Pierre April 24. Prosecutions announced by T. O. Ronayne director of the division of inspections state department of agriculture. Charges include sale of milk with insufficient milk fat and sale of stock food without inspection fee. Individuals named include James E. Cile Morristown fined $10 Tom Church Ridgeview fined $50 and stock confiscated Teary Egleman Menno fined $10 and costs Geor sa Hummel Hot Springs fined $19 and costs J Ryan Salem charged with missing medicinal stock and unpaid inspection fee Westberg Summit offered cigarettes without stamps and fined $10 and costs. University of South Dakota to Offer Public History Course

The extension division under G R Breckanridge announces a new history course for high schools and community groups. It will use lectures films and Yale Chronicles of American History with assignments prepared by Professor H S Schell returning in September from a leave at the University of Wisconsin.

Wessington Man Buys Tulare Restaurant

George Reed former resident of Wessington has purchased a restaurant in Tulare and has taken possession. His family has moved to Tulare. A daughter was born April 20 to Mr and Mrs Garl Leidthe. Plowing for corn has started in Miller with larger acreage expected this year.

An evening benefit dance organized by the Puron Central Labor and Women's Union was announced to raise funds for the Labor Temple project. Mrs. C K Snow served as event chairman with government land donation noted as part of the backing.

Captain Staiger will lead a special Salvation Army gathering in Huron. The event at the Salvation Army hall will begin at o'clock with Staiger performing as a singer and baritone horn player and delivering a talk.
