New Discoveries Made In Medicine
Howard W. Blakeslee reports three medical advances to a global science audience from Memphis. Pneumonia treatment at Louisiana State University medical center reduced deaths with a protein infusion, white blood cell therapy from one species curing peritonitis, and a discovery about bile production. The pneumonia data covered five years with varied age groups. The peritonitis method used leukocytes from one dog to treat another, including humans. New findings on bile secretion complete the trio.

Liver bile production linked to brain signals proven
A study from Northwest University Medical School confirms that bile secretion is triggered by direct brain signaling as well as liver nerves and hormones. Researchers Tantiri and Ivy show bile production can be induced independently of hormones, via neural pathways from the brain.
