Coogan Fight Over Mansion Ends With Temporary Stay
Los Angeles April 21 Jackie Coogan saved his mother and stepfather from ouster from the mansion built by his screen fortune. A temporary receiver was appointed after his $4,000,000 accounting suit against Arthur L. and Lilian Coogan Bernstein allowed seizure of the home and cars. A stipulation lets the couple stay in possession pending trial. A hearing on the Bernstein petition to dismiss the receivership is set for tomorrow. Mrs. Bernstein seeks to amend a prior deposition in which she called her son a “bad boy” and denied promises of earnings. Her memory was said to be refreshed by records showing a 1922 guardianship proceeding for Coogan, dismissed in 1923.
