Needle in Hand at Southern Normal Student
Helen Mikuska, a sophomore at Southern Normal in Springfield, had a needle removed from her hand after it had embedded for eight years. The needle entered when she was a child after a chair broke, traveled from the palm to the knuckle, and caused pain until its removal from under a tendon.

Bohman Named Chair Of Extemp Speaking Contest
George V. Bohman director of forensics at Dakota Wesleyan University and newly elected governor of the Sioux province of Pi Kappa Delta has been appointed to lead the men extemporaneous speaking contest at the national Pi Kappa Delta convention in Lexington Kentucky next April. The appointment was made by W. P. Ewing tournaments chairman for the 1934 convention, a William Jewell College professor in Liberty Missouri.

The Forestburg Fireflies Girls 4-H club held its April 15 gathering at 10:30 AM at leader Mrs. M Briggs home. Members reviewed health cards for March and approved sewing hour meetings on a business basis. A club play for the next PTA was chosen and production started. New member Faye Mack caught up with others. Dinner by Mary Jane Wilder and Shirley Ohlson celebrated Mary Jane’s birthday. Next meeting set for May 5.

The men of St Stephens Episcopal church served a turkey supper attracting a large patronage. Turkeys from a prized flock were used with about one third accepted by President Roosevelt for the White House. Thanksgiving meal used around hundred pounds of turkey. one portion weighed 37 pounds.

Alpena School Exhibit Shines By Seventh and Eighth Graders
