Pierre April 12 Report shows February fires in 29 counties caused 236,022.03 in damage. Beadle Codington Davison Hughes Lake Lawrence Minnehaha Pennington Yankton and others listed with losses and insured values. Bon Homme led losses at 60,000, adjoining building fires caused 24,412.92, and nineteen unknown fires totaled 198,72,418.
Vermillion April 12 The Spirit of St Louis in miniature will fly in competition with many model aircraft at the first state Miniature Aircraft Tournament sponsored by the College of Engineering at the University of South Dakota on Engineer's Day. Joseph Martin Vermillion high school student and son of Dr. J L Martin will enter his exact scale reproduction which resembles the plane piloted by Cot Lindbergh.
Brookings April 12 A job in Burma near India awaits one of the 1929 agricultural graduates of South Dakota State college. The State college dean of agriculture O Larsen has the request on his desk but has not announced the chosen candidate. A graduate capable of directing boys and girls club work in southeastern Asia is sought by a mission school there already employing Joe Smith of Sioux Falls. The South Dakota program led by Fr. M. Jones, trained at State College, emphasizes local leader development through three years of special conferences, a practice now used by other states.
BROOKINGS April 12 WNews others and council members to direct the affairs of the Women's Self Governing association at South Dakota State college during the spring term have been announced. The officers are Anna Foulke White president Eiva Harison Hendrix Minn vice president and Genevieve Kulns Frankfort secretary treasurer. The council consists of Ephoydiel Larson Vega and Vera Rasehke Water town seniors Valma Winsledahl Carthage and Mahle Phelps Madison juniors Muriel Vanderburg Huron sophomore and Geraldine Austin Cottonwood freshmen.
Major Frank A. Cleveland a Hot Springs graduate and former service member will become treasurer of the Hot Springs branch of the National Soldiers Home. He succeeds Major V. B. Kincaid, who moves to Bath New York as executive officer. Cleveland reports for duty today after returning from Marlon Indiana.
Educators and scientists from the state will gather in Sioux Falls on May 12 for the South Dakota Academy of Science main meeting. Dr A L Haines secretary treasurer and chemistry professor at the University of South Dakota announced today.
