The Pacific cable project aims for mid November completion

Melbourne notes report that the Fed oral Postal Department expects the Vancouver to Fanningland section of the Pacific cable with Fiji extension to be finished by mid November. It states postal rates on the Pacific cable will be set soon and unlikely to be cut, with charges kept the same as current rates.

Anglia Cable Steamer in Port for Fanning Island Work

The Anglia, of Telegraph Construction and Maintenance Co., arrived to complete the Vancouver to Fanning Island cable segment. The ship carries four large tanks of different cable grades and a complex laying mechanism. Colonia’s cable between Vancouver and Fanning Island is being laid, with the Vancouver to Fiji run finished by the Anglia crew and the Anglia awaiting Colonia for the final section to Fiji.

Native steamer wailer Charley Pour drowns in Honolulu harbor

Yesterday the body of Charley Pour a native wailer aboard the steamer Ke An Mow was found near the A Island wharf. A coroner's inquest concluded he accidentally fell into the harbor and drowned after an evening of drinking. his clothing was found aboard. November note urges registration.

Deputy Public Works Official Injured In Carriage Crash

Marston Campbell deputy superintendent of public works was injured in a carriage accident when an axle broke and the horse bolted. The carriage struck a telephone pole near the Beretania street pumping station, throwing the occupants. His two children were unhurt. Campbell suffered a comminuted fracture of the tibia and a fibula fracture, with Dr. Cooper predicting a six week recovery.
