Joseph Nawahi a leading native of the Hawaiian islands and legislator died yesterday in a private city hospital after a prolonged struggle with consumption. He came here on the summer steamer from Honolulu August 27 to seek medical care and was cared for by his wife at the Occidental Hotel until his condition worsened.
On September 16 Oliver W. Winthrop was found guilty of kidnapping and robbing James Campbell. The jury returned a five minute verdict, aided by prosecution and trial conduct. The defense offered an alibi that failed to counter the charges. Sentencing awaited as the steamer departed.
Healani Yacht and Boat Club board met at noon electing two new members and processing thirteen applications. George R. Carter was unanimously chosen captain. Many membership applications are expected next week as practice crews stay active each evening to boost club welfare.
