Honolulu residents recall Frank Wilburton a longtime overseer of labor gangs who led Japanese workers to Clipperton Island. He writes of harsh living conditions, strikes, and the plan to return home after winter supplies, while other items note annexation club activity and local incidents on Kauai and Maui.
A Honolulu committee of Hui Kaulana o Leati protests annexation to the United States. They claim four U S commissioners refused to receive their memorial, blaming Sanford B. Dole for barrier. Signatories include Jo O Lang Rover W Wilcox Lor K Lane J W Birtkane and Jousx Manuxa. Honolulu September 20 1908.
Two deserters from the Oulu plantation were caught this morning while attempting to board an Inter-island steamer. They carried money and were returned by a plantation officer. The Red Cross Society seeks volunteers to staff two medical tents at Camp McKinley and Camp Otis to aid thirsty workers near Diamond Head, with free coffee and bread served nightly 9 to 12. A Red Cross meeting is set for Wednesday at 4:30 PM in the YMCA building to organize tours and ensure sustained support.
Om Important Business B F Dillinghem and L A Thurston were passengers on the Kinau to Maalaea this morning. From that place the two will go to Makawao where they have important business to transact. They will be back at the end of the week.
