A Honolulu committee of Hui Kaulana o Leati protests annexation to the United States. They claim four U S commissioners refused to receive their memorial, blaming Sanford B. Dole for barrier. Desertions From Oulu Plantation and Red Cross Volunteer Drives

Two deserters from the Oulu plantation were caught this morning while attempting to board an Inter-island steamer. They carried money and were returned by a plantation officer. The Red Cross Society seeks volunteers to staff two medical tents at Camp McKinley and Camp Otis to aid thirsty workers near Diamond Head, with free coffee and bread served nightly 9 to 12. A Red Cross meeting is set for Wednesday at 4:30 PM in the YMCA building to organize tours and ensure sustained support.

Lieut. Col. N. Gorton of Rangitikei New Zealand and Mrs. Gorton have returned to town from Hawaii and spoke at length on sugar and coffee. He urged annexation or a protectorate, praised U S strength, and described Hawaii as a key strategic point with booming cane and possible coffee cultivation.
