Fine new hotel for Hilo to rise behind present inn

A new two story wooden hotel with iron roof will replace the current property in Hilo. Architects Ripley & Dickey describe a semicircular garden fronting the courthouse, a 70 foot frontage, 150 foot drive, and cottages connected by a continuous verandah. The plan includes ten upper floor bedrooms, two bathrooms, and ample staff spaces. W. G. Irwin and John A. Scott approved the project and bids will follow detailed drawings and specifications.

Seaman Drowns After Overboard From Alden Besse

On Sunday while the bark Alden Besse sailed to this port a Swede named Miller fell overboard near the bow. Help was called as a life buoy and boat hooks were used but the man could not be found. A childand two elder siblings were on King street after a ball game when a wheel driven by Captain Ward of Gainsborough struck Huton causing injuries to two youths and the girl. The girl suffered facial injuries and a dislocated arm previously, with De Murray and Attorney General Smith noted as guardians.

Waste the Ware Mr. Fred J. Pooley first officer of the Japanese steamship Kin shin Maru now in port was an officer on a Japanese steamer engaged in transporting troops during the Japan China war. He has been decorated with a cross shaped medal by the Emperor and received a special medal to wear in his button hole and a purse of gold. He picked up two shells while visiting a battlefield and keeps them aboard the steamer AS mementoes.

A man named Jim witnessed a large fish at the old fishmarket wharf this morning. He struck it with a crowbar, hitting the spine. the fish died. Oliver Yoma then provided aid or praise for the act, and the fish was seen near the water wheel at the police station stables.
