Baltimore Delayed By Boiler Gasket Failure
The cruiser Baltimore left Mare Island early on the 20th for San Francisco en route to Honolulu. Halfway down the bay one boiler set blew a gasket and steam filled the fireroom. Engines stopped, anchors let go, and she was ordered to replace the Philadelphia at Honolulu and proceed to the Hawaiian Islands with all speed. Officials deem the boiler damage slight but repairs in port may delay her about a day.
