The Hongkong Maru sent out a fast despatch today, her 900 tons of freight moved from hold to the dock in good shape. It was expected she would not depart for the coast until late this evening.

Dr. Charles M. Hyde died at 9 30 p m at his Beretan street home after three days of unconsciousness His wife Charles K Hyde his son Miss Cornelia Hyde and sisters Miss KE Snow Rev W M Kincaid and Mrs Rose were present at the bedside The funeral is set for Central Union Church at 1 am Sunday with services including organ preludes readings and a choir performance The interment will be at Navana Cemetery Hyde born in New York City in 1832 educated at Williams College Union Theological Seminary and Princeton He arrived in Honolulu in 1887 as a missionary and helped shape education for Hawaiians He is remembered as a steadfast educator and church worker Pallbearers include Bishop W S Bishop Rev O H Galick and others from Honolulu's religious and educational circles.

Ak-Sar-Ben Ball Ends Festive Ak Year

The annual Ak-Sar-Ben ball closed a season of knights fetes held in their hall. The venue was transformed with red, green and yellow colors and extensive electric lighting. Judge McHugh was revealed as the King at the coronation and a regal reception followed. Captain and Mrs Towss plan visits to Chicago and New York before returning to Houvolnla.

Kept Officers Moving as Insult Erupts on Inter Island Wharf

At about seven last evening on the Inter Island wharf Moana departure preparations were interrupted when Officer Frank Ferreira arrested Ei J Mahoney for profane language. A mob of roughly five hundred, chiefly soldiers, clashed with officers as Mahoney resisted and was hauled to the station. The arrest followed a chaotic pursuit through Queen and Fort streets, ending with the police station closure of the suspect and a court postponement until Monday.

Hawaii Police Adopt Khaki Uniforms Islandwide

The entire Hawaii police force receives khaki uniforms patterned after American soldiers. Maui will be next, followed by Kauai, and country district police are already equipped.

Transports Valencia Sikh reach harbor with troops recruits

Six US Army transports now in port form a fleet as Valencia and Sikh arrive with 600 troops and officers for the 37th and 85th Regiments. Valencia brings 420 recruits for the Thirty Seventh Infantry and a long list of officers, including Captain Hardin and Lieutenants Martin Hunt Smith Sinclair, Gordon, Stanford and Colt. Sikh carries 600 troops from Portland, with headquarters and band aboard, and officers led by Major Walsh.
