Death and Funeral of Judge Hitchcock in Kohala

New Inter Island Steamer Sails from San Francisco

Word reaches Alameda that the new Inter Island steamer sailed from San Francisco on the 6th test. She is expected to arrive about the 15th or later. The ship will be given her native name upon arrival at the port.

Dr Hall, former surgeon on the Alameda, resigned from the company. Dr J A Nelson, recently house surgeon for the County hospital in San Francisco, was assigned in his place. This marks Dr Nelsons first service at sea.

The chorus of young Hawaiian singers will meet in the Arian hall at 7:30. All members who have signified intention to participate are requested to be present. Fine music will be practiced under the direction of Prof. Theu Richarda.

Annual convention opens for Congregational Board of Missions

Grand Rapids October 4 The American Board of Missions of the Congregational Church opened its annual convention at Park Church. Secretary C H Daniels warned that native agencies had been cut 45 to 60 percent and missionary salaries reduced 10 percent. Receipts for the year reached 661,307, up 15,025 from last year but below five year average by 240,000. Expenditures totaled 682,469 with a year end debt of 45,180, of which 25,002 has been raised. Applications resting on August 31, 1898 stood at 40,201.

Milk Analysis Ordered After Suspected Poisonings

Lieutenant Goodale asked the Board Inspector for a memo on milk served at lamp McKinley suspected of poisoning one company and causing weakness in others. Inspector Arthur John Stone collected four samples from two large dairies with orderly detail from Colonel Barber. results await Board of Health report.

Chief Justice Judd and W N Armstrong made 65 official calls aboard the Bonnington this morning and were spared the salute. The party went ashore in the captain's gig after completing the voyage.

Trial of Tom King for furious driving begins in police court

The case against Tom King driver of Hack No 3 continued through the forenoon in the Police Court. He faces furious and heedless driving charges for an October 4 accident at the Y M C A that damaged three carriages and injured two. Judge Wilcox fined King 850 and costs. remaining damages to be paid. J M Starkey returned on the Alaeda.

Miss Viola Monroe of the Salvation Army has returned to Peking yesterday and will soon go to Hilo, where she was stationed before departing to the States. She has been on a nine months visit at Kinemi and will be married at noon after her arrival in Hilo.
