Haiku plantation upgrades loom for Maui sugar mill
Haiku and Kihei plantations pressed heavy irrigation, pumping and canal works as Hawaiian Commercial and Sugar Co plans a modern Paulene mill to replace the aging Bpreckelaville facility. New water systems, rail, roads, and a 3600 ton daily cane capacity aim to boost Maui sugar output and efficiency.

Pioneer Mill Co Lands Vast Cane District on Maui
The Pioneer Mill Company in Maui controls about 26 000 acres in the Lahaina and Kaanapali districts. Of this, around 4 000 acres are under cane, with one third plant cane. The land sits up to 1000 feet elevation with volcanic soil, plowed mainly by full steam tackle and oil board but largely worked by pick and shovel. mauka limestone steams plows are used in Kum napal Creek area.
