Loss of H. M. S. Condor Is Definitely Learned

Victoria B C May 12 The fate of H M S Condor was learned after heavy seas. Robert Marshall aboard the sealing schooner Mary Taylor wrote to his brother near Methogen that the Condor foundered during the awful night of December 7 carrying her crew of 116 to their deaths near Flattery. The writer notes the disaster and suggests he could give further details when he returns in about two months.

English Officer Accused in Martinique Looting Ruins

Fort de France reports an English officer implicated in stealing sacred altar vessels from Et Pierre ruins and sent to St Lucia aboard the USS Cincinnati. A fire at Armour & Co lard refinery in Union Stock Yards, Chicago, killed seventeen workers and injured many more. Officials estimate material loss between 160000 and 900000 dollars as crowds watched from the hog runway collapse under the blaze, causing the largest injuries.
