The Senate Commerce Committee favors a bill admitting grape wines under 18 percent strength for duty free import, aiming to substitute lighter wines for stronger liquors. The little schooner Norma under Captain Rosehill came to port nine days from Kusais Island in the Caro line Islands. Owned by Mr. Rowell of Honolulu, she sailed with Captain Rosehill and his family aboard. Crew member Joe Cook is related to a customs official. The voyage featured light winds then NE trades. The Viking reported near a reef. the Norma had left before and a package of letters was to be sent to San Francisco. The ship carried coconuts wood and South Seas curios. a Makee Island band concert was noted for tonight.
A large crowd gathered at Oahu College last night for the Pauahi Hall dedication marking the distribution of Pauahi hall. Dole, son of Daniel Dole, spoke on the college’s history while the program included an organ prelude, glee club selections, an orchestra led by Professor Berger, and the key presentation to President Hosmer by W. Frank Rodrigues, five year employee of the O R L Co, was killed this morning while helping to couple sugar cars on a Honolulu to Waimaoo mixed train. He slipped from the car end, the train ran over him, and he died instantly with multiple severe injuries.
