At the annual meeting leaders were elected to serve for the coming years President, vice president and secretary roles. Nominations included Wool A. Behnetey W. Hall and H. W. Lewis with a vote held to fill the offices.
The senate considered the foot binding bill and adopted an amendment. Reports covered Hilo electric railway, deficiency appropriation, water taking from Waiuku river for Hilo Electric Light. Bills on homestead reappraisement, condemnation suits, and ports of entry advanced. House amendments to Internal Taxes Bill debated, with tax collection timing contested. The substitute water bill and reappraisal of homesteads moved forward.
The House advanced the Department of Public Instruction bill with second reading. A clause barring clergy from commission membership sparked fierce debate led by Rep. Kamanoha and Rep. Hanuan, amid broader provisions on ministerial roles, private schools, and state supervision of education. The bill assigns the Foreign Affairs Minister as ex officio Public Instruction head and sets a six member commission.
The measure to regulate a medicine version passed second TemOne and moved to the Public Health Committee after first and second readings. A related act on military envy and regimental rea was read a second time and referred to the Min callaugpus Committee. The session adjourned.
Central Union Church overflowed with Honolulu's notable citizens for the simple yet impressive funeral of Kate Field. The service featured floral tributes, a quartet, organ music, and prayers, with officials including Dr. J. S. McGuirew and Minister Thurston among the procession, and a final burial at Nuuanu Cemetery under an American flag.
