Elms Must Get a New Baseball Baseman

Indictments Returned in Hawaii bribery case and other charges

Four indictments were returned by the grand jury in Judge Robinsons court. Defendants were arraigned and held for Saturday as authorities pursue cases tied to Deputy Attorney General Peters. Murder Trial Opens With Plan Of Premises Evidence

A juror panel and witnesses began proceedings in a murder trial over the March 12, 1908 death of Perry. Surveyor C. E. Dove testified he prepared a plan of the premises at the order of the High Sheriff Brown. Several witnesses are expected to describe the scene and events surrounding the death, including a boy who saw a gun discharge and the mule and Perry slain near Murphy's house.

Cable Laying To Guam Under Way

In Manila on May 20 the cable ship Colonia began laying the Pacific cable to Guam. The first link will connect Manila with Guam, with the Anglia to follow. Completion to Monetuly is expected by the first of July.

8000 Filipinos homeless after destructive fire in Manila

A massive blaze swept the Tondo district causing two million pesos in damage. Eight thousand residents were left homeless as relief measures were organized by the local authorities and the islands government. The fire displaced families and destroyed homes and shops.

Drill and repairs amid camp life near Diamond Head

The pioneers at Camp McKinley have practiced with their rites on the Diamond Head range for the past fortnight and more work remains about six weeks. Excellent scores have been made at 10 20 and 300 yards. Possible revolver range may be opened by officers later. The gunboat Yorktown likely to be out of commission in San Francisco for repairs and overhaul after years in Anlally waters.
