At 9 20 o clock that evening the riot alarm was turned in from the police station by High Sheriff Brown as police flooded the city. Acting Chairman Kuplhes and Speaker Beckley arrived to view the scene. The riot whistle blew five times and dormitory occupants rushed out arming themselves. Police and fire departments mobilized, patrol wagons dispatched, and a swift response followed. The show of force pleased the legislators and demonstrated a well coordinated city system.
